Excursion

The cycling excursion to the Great Gorge of Castellaneta will start in Gioia del Colle, a town in the Puglia region located between Bari and Taranto. The town is famous for its beautiful Norman Swabian castle , which is also the town’s landmark. After a brief introduction by your guide, you will be provided with an ebike and helmet to start the tour. You will leave the town of Gioia del Colle with one of our experienced guides to ride south towards the Gravina of Castellaneta. The route is about 30 kilometers and will take us through the picturesque rural and hilly landscapes of Puglia. During our tour, we will have the opportunity to admire the beauty of the surrounding nature, including olive groves, oak forests, farmland and numerous farms. We will make a brief stop at a local farm to sample some of the region’s typical products, such as local bread, olive oil and wine. Upon arrival at the Gravina di Castellaneta, we will meet our experienced local guide who will take us on a discovery tour of this wonderful natural site. The ravine is a deep and narrow gorge, carved into the ground by the force of water over the centuries. It is one of the most beautiful and striking attractions in Puglia and stretches for miles into the surrounding landscape. Our guided tour of the gorge will take us to discover its unique flora and fauna, as well as its multiple gorges carved into the karst rocks. In addition, we will have the opportunity to explore some of the caves and discover some of the hidden secrets of the gorge. After the guided tour, we will return via the route taken earlier, continuing our bike tour through the beautiful Apulian landscape before returning to Gioia del Colle, where we can relax and enjoy a light lunch of typical Apulian dishes. Alternatively, you can choose to return to Gioia del Colle by train with bicycles from the nearby Palagianello station and comfortably arrive in Gioia del Colle to enjoy a typical Apulian lunch in the ancient village under the ancient castle tower.
